About Me

Hello, my name is Whysper. For the past year or so, I've been into playing forum games, mostly Forum Mafia. On my homesite Forum of Lies, we also play Misc games. I designed this game to be played there.

If you want to contact me, my Discord is Whysper#1313.

Background

Originally I was thinking of basing the game off Hunger Games. I’d seen the simulators that randomly make people pick up items and attack each other. I thought to simply add a map and give players some choice on their actions while still retaining the randomness of the interactions. I had also wanted to allow spectators to be like Sponsors and give limited items to Tributes they favored.

However, the game gradually morphed to be more like battle royale games such as PUBG and Free Fire. So I dropped the Sponsors for now and added elements like the shrinking map. I’ve kept most elements to the basics in this first iteration, but I plan to add new elements to the game over time. Certain games can also be customized to themes, like a space theme or zombie theme.

For the discussions, I had started with only private threads for players sharing a tile and nothing else. But I realized this severely limited discussions and would probably bore players waiting for the next turn to process. So I ended up adding a global intercom for all players to chat in the main thread, while still allowing private threads for players on the same tile.

Hextml

Maps are created with Hextml, an online hex map maker, world building tool, campaign manager and virtual tabletop software. I would have loved to use hex tiles since the maps look nicer that way, but normal square tiles make movement directions easier for players to handle.
